G&W Electric Successfully Installs Equipment across China to Enhance Grid Reliability
Company’s global footprint continues to expand to meet demand for reliable power in APAC
Bolingbrook, Illinois, July 16, 2020 – G&W Electric Co., a global supplier of electric power equipment since 1905, announced the successful installation of two projects across China. The equipment installed in Yiwu and Ningbo, will play a critical role in providing grid reliability as China utilities enter peak power demand during summer months. Both installations have been recently tested and are currently in operation.
“G&W Electric is committed to working with utilities in China as it works to meet the growing demand for reliable and sustainable energy,” said John Mueller, Chairman and Owner of G&W Electric. “As China continues to recover from the pandemic, we were thrilled to be able to complete both projects as scheduled to prepare the grids for the peak power season.”
In Yiwu, Zhejiang, a city with the population 1.2 million, a total of 54 of G&W Electric’s 220kV Python Premolded Joints were installed in an underground cable line six miles long – the longest tunnel for power cables in the province. The installation enables the power to be transmitted to a fully automated 220kV substation in city center of Yiwu, which greatly improves the reliability of power supply in the city center.
About a two-hours’ drive northeast, in Ningbo, Zhejiang, G&W Electric’s PAT Style Slip-On terminations replaced defective equipment after the utility discovered an oil leakage throughout a competitor’s 110 kV cable terminals. Since G&W Electric’s technology eliminates the possibility of oil leakages, all of the competitor’s defective 110kV units in the substation were replaced with G&W Electric’s Python terminations to ensure a healthier grid during peak summer months.
Both projects were operated by Zhejiang Province of State Grid (SGCC), one of the largest utilities in China, responsible for power supply to 26 provinces across the country.
